If you live in Utah, you know that April brings beautiful blooms—and a whole lot of pollen. For our lash extension clients, allergy season can be a little tricky. We often hear: "My eyes are so itchy, I just want to rub them!"
The good news? You don’t have to remove your extensions during allergy season. You just need to change your hygiene routine.
Why Pollen Loves Your Lashes
Lash extensions add surface area to your eyes. While this looks gorgeous, it also means there is more surface area for microscopic pollen and dust to land on. If you aren’t cleaning them properly, that pollen sits right on your lash line, causing irritation, redness, and that dreaded itchiness.
The "Lash Bath" is Non-Negotiable
We tell our clients this all year, but in April, it is critical: You must wash your lashes daily. Rinsing with water isn’t enough. You need a specialized lash cleanser (like the one we use in the studio) to break down the oils and physically remove the allergens from the lashes.
Pro Tip: Wash your lashes immediately after coming indoors from a walk or being outside. This washes the pollen off before it has time to irritate your eyes.
When to Take a Break
If your allergies are severe and your eyes are constantly swollen or watering, it might be time to switch to a Lash Lift for a month or two. Constant watering can break down the lash adhesive faster, and rubbing your eyes can damage your natural lashes.
If you are struggling with your lashes this season, come see us. We can do a professional deep clean or help you transition to a more allergy-friendly service!
